tears for my country
Tears For My Country
( This poem is dedicated to the Ukrainian people and their country)
Tears for my country
Running down the wrinkles of the old woman face
In the dark night,
when her son’s coffin returns from the frontline.
Tears for my country
Running down the sunken eyes of the young wife,
With the news her husband passed away
And the last words he said: I always love you.
Tears for my country
Its red earth exposed by huge bomb explosions
Forest of green trees breaking, piercing by millions of bullets
Its once cultivated fields now inundated with mines
Waiting to maim or kill innocent children.
Tears for my country
Walking through villages and villages, cities through cities
Now just heaps of ruins with ghosts wondering
Beneath scars of burning and smoking homes.
Tears for my country
Seemed quite a long time ago, bustling with life
Once peace still existed in the laughters of beautiful girls
Embracing and dancing with their lovers.
Now these same young men going to war and never expected to come home.
Tears for my country
With war raging on like the winter rain never stopped
For so long under the gray sky and cold winter
Over the lonely smiles of sad eyes,
Of people had lost all hope of living.
Tears for my country
Where all the dreams shattered
And the mothers looking silently over their babies
Tears keep running, trying to remember the old lullaby.
Tears for my country
Running through the soul of unknown soldiers
Who tombs keep filling the green fields
Where sunflowers used to grow.
Tears for my country
Please! Angels if you still eying
Please stop the blood dripping from the corner of your eyes
Please donate a savior ‘s miracle gift
Erasing all this hellish squalor with all these tears.
